Okay I know by just reading this title some of you are like,
"How could your co-workers forget that you’re a girl???" Well it's
pretty simple to be honest. So let me start at the beginning of this funny
story. I work at a minor league baseball field in the kitchens with mainly boys
around my age. There are girls that work at the field but a lot of them work in
the front part of the kitchen where they cashier, while I work in the back of
the kitchen and I cook and wrap the food.
This is my second year working at the field and I usually work in
the same area every time there is a game, so the same people are always with
me. That being said I'm almost always with boys in the back with the occasional
girl coming in once or twice.
Everyone at the field that works in the
kitchens wears a maroon shirt and hat that the company gives you and you must
wear khaki pants or shorts. Girls have to have their hair up at all times
because we work with food. Now because most of the food is fried and the
kitchens are SUPER hot no one wears makeup to the field because you'd just
sweat it off. So to put it simply for two years I wore the same uniform as
everyone else and I was always bare faced.
My personality also comes into play with
this story because for the most part I'm quiet when I work. But I've gotten use
to the people I’m with so I'm more myself now and I joke around with all the
guys. This is probably one of the problems that I've run into because now the
boys say certain things one normally wouldn't say to a girl. I just laugh it
off whatever inappropriate thing they have to say because they're just being typical
teenage boys.
Now comes the actual story! Today I went
to the field with my parents because they also work there and since it was my
day off I figured I'd go out instead of stay inside at my house all day. I wore
a really cute dress from H&M, had my hair down, and put makeup on.
When I went to the field I thought it'd be
fun to visit my coworkers/friends and rub it in their faces that I had a day
off. While I was walking towards the door one of the guys happened to be
outside recycling some stuff and he saw me. He just stared at me while I
smiled, waved, and ran over to see him. The whole time I was thinking,
"What is his problem?" When He finally opened his mouth he said,
"Oh my god you're wearing a dress." I couldn't help but laugh at his
reaction.
After he got over himself he dragged me
inside where he insisted to show me off to the rest of the guys. He even told
them that they wouldn't recognize me and that I was a completely different
person. In the end I had five guys just staring at me wondering why I looked
different. One of them even told me I looked weird, but I didn't take any
offense to it because when we're not in uniform we all look different. We all
have different tastes and ways that we express ourselves so it makes sense that
it's weird when we either see each other in a different environments or
different clothing.
For me it was a funny experience because
those boys realized that I wasn't one of them, that I was a girl, and that I
could be really cute and girly when I wanted to be. So that's my funny story
for you ^^
