Hey all! So today's challenge is to unfollow and unfriend people on social media~ Now I see most people these days follow a lot of people in hopes in getting a follow back, which to me is a bit ridiculous. Of course if you want to be sponsored your follower count is very important to the stores. It's understandable if you obsess a lot over it, but it's not the end of the world.
On tumblr it seems like everyone wants to know each other's follower count because they want to know who is the most popular. I've also noticed that a lot of bloggers refuse to tell people the actual number, they either tell them to come off anon or they give them x's (example: x,xxx). The need to be the best and the most popular is getting a bit out of hand and it's to the point where bloggers don't even want to unfollow people in case they get unfollowed back.
I personally don't see it as a big deal if I lose a few followers, of course if I see my numbers go down a lot I get a little sad and wonder why they left but then I tell myself that blogging is just for fun. But I try to keep my follower count up because I am in a few sponsorships with a few stores so I can't let them down.
On tumblr I follow 112 people, which isn't that much considering most people I know follow 300+ people. The highest I've ever followed was around 200 blogs and that was too much for me. I also changed my blog theme and so certain people didn't pertain to my blog anymore.
I didn't unfollow anyone on tumblr because I check two or three times a week to see how long it's been since someone has updated their blog. I don't want to follow someone who's been away for over a month. I also just want to follow my friends mainly, I find that they're much more important and I rather see what they're posting and reblogging than some stranger.
Then of course there's the "I don't want to break my mutual!! What if they think I hate them?" I say just let them know you're unfollowing but it's because they don't have the same theme as you. You do have the option of saying nothing but if it's a mutual that you talk to you might just want to let them know.
Okay so basically I didn't unfollow or unfriend anyone on most of my social media because I always clean out the people I don't really know. My policy is be friends/follow people who you care about and want them to know what's going on in your life.
On Facebook I was probably friends with over 700-1000 people! No one knows that many people personally, if you say you do then there might be something wrong... or you're just a reaaaaally friendly person! But in the past year I went down to 250 friends to now 236 friends. It doesn't really matter what age your at sometimes people want to show off how many people they know. I personally only want to share certain things with the people I've known for a while.
It does seem weird that I'm sharing my life with you guys on here but I see it a bit differently.... It's a little hard to explain >.<
Anyways I hope you enjoyed this post! Tomorrow's challenge is to go for a walk and practice mindfulness!
